Let’s look at this ‘Show and Tell’ presentation in pictures of Katies Case

***Presented here in pictures for many of the parents- who also have NOT read either for all their lifetime. IT WAS NEVER YOUR FAULT! Educators simply do not know much about this subject matter, yet! Now we are together here & first, let’s SAVE OUR KIDS, first!
Here is Katie’s Case; When her Student Case began 2nd grade, she was one of the 17% that means 1 in 6 students had these reading problems. That number now 40 % represents 1 in 2 for many of our Students who do not read past BASIC 3rd grade . (It applies also to those who leave middle school at that level of reading & then High School –with the only addition of a 6th grade Vocabulary). Most student-adults remain there for their lifetime. What a future! And… For Contracts? …How many will sign the signature line in the pad without reading the contract!

Back to Katie- Katie was found to need help reading at the end of 2nd grade by her great teachers; then she had an Individual Education Profile IEP & Special Services for 2 years. By 5th grade, Sept. (& always a smart child)- she was given the Woodcock Mastery Test (by the Asst. Principal). Katie’s reading score was still in 5th at 3.4 level- 3rd grade, 4th month now in 5th grade & she was “not a happy camper” either.


*** SHE STARTED READING SKILL RECOVERY SERVICES, the next quarter in January.
So, now let’s begin her case here Sept in 5th grade -with a checklist of her (horrid) behavior:
All this, while Katie could not read past 3rd grade for all of her 3rd grade, 4th, or 5th Grade & peer interactions, were not equal or good either– Note her
UNTIL SHE RECOVERED HER READING SKILLS by the end of 5th grade. Let’s see now what was occurring first in 1994– before this Reading intervention—notice intervention NOT working I each monthly comment written by Special Services.

While after 2/95 on the SPECIAL SERVICES -Course Modification/ Double Basic Mainstream Monitoring LOG— on the 2nd page- Note what begins in 5th grade; 5th month –what you see here is somehow all of a sudden Special Education actually remarks that their interventions are ALL WORKING!

In FACT, what you see is a page of progressive improvements she made remarkably well from her FVYD Reading Skill Recovery program in progress…that year.

Then she blossomed after 5th grade- behavior changed also

NOW, Look what happens by the 7th grade in mainstream normal classes & see her Report Card for Honor Roll in mainstream normal classrooms & notice her best behavior.

Look at the Reading scores KTEA for 7th grade. Her KTEA reading is – 7.2 for Reading Composite, with Reading Comprehension at 8.3, and do not miss her Math score at 12.9. I told you SHE WAS SMART!

Look at her 7th grade Report Card-see behavior 4 great; 3 good ALSO & Honor Roll etc.
