When Reading a Book Brings failure!

(There was plenty to be said about books & I want to share a little input from a post with you!  Make sure to read on this website all our testimonials!  ….because WE deliver hope!

When A “Literacy” Teacher Asked for Input on Books ….we, FVYD Respond!

Books are Great Tools for creativity & to develop individuality. ….For grades 1-2 the questions of what reactions books might bring lets consider a simple exercise . The teacher says- Lets all select a book and take 3 minutes to explore it, just sit calmly and look at the book you pick —Then, if you choose to—you can tell the class (in a few words) about what you see!—That would be nice as your classmates might like it too! (Just a few kids might want to do this aloud- not push). After a few kids have responded we might say, ”Anyone else who would like to say something about their book & choice for picking it?

(For a younger group Pre K- K —Let’s say “what do you want to share about the book you picked. What caught your eye).” “What did you find in this book-that looked good or nice to share with others? Remember,You can always pick another book if you would like too, also!”

Teachers—Let students turn the pages & meanwhile you may take enough time to watch body language!…Who is on the move—are they uncomfortable or just being  a disrupter… So delay a little, to see how they resolve their anxiousness.

This is an individual exercise—It promotes creativity and by using or having different books to pick from all can easily do this simply (at grades up to 2nd grade)- with no competition or failures!

Next exercise could be– Lets draw something we see or read or even feel about the book or from the pages we have chosen. …..So when you are drawing about it remember!!!!! Even lines of color express our feelings…and/or stickers can be useful also.

***Students Reading Skills should be working by 3rd grade if not we, FVYD need to screen them- step in and step up & select them for recovering. Reading skills must work effectively for all. In 15 minutes/ 12 weeks we train the staff/ or ours– to get this done with a short inclusion program “A New Approach to Reading” developed by our nonprofit 501c3 Future Visions Youth Development, Inc FVYD. Then you all will see why we might want to redefine the words for “teaching literacy” also.

Following our FVYD program, our teachers can teach literacy with success. That includes Vocabulary, Phonics and Word Group recognition etc. We expect that these teachers’ teaching efforts now will be easier & a very successful exercise –instead of the ongoing and failing struggle from the past for as many as 40% of students.

ASIDE:  Reading Skill Recovery RSR has been clinical/educational professional work for decades. This RSR work is not literacy training!  RSR is generally reading mechanics for only healthy eyes, to promote agility and quick (milliseconds) response & with stability. And…within just those few week, 15 mins. soon these selected kids begin to thrive & join their peers to enjoy learning, also

From this point on— with our short FVYD program

****This story about Books then changes. It is at this age about 10-12 when BOOKS are no longer friendly– the books then become “their enemy” at about 5th grade to adult.   And also, a source for” painful intimidation” each time reading aloud is suggested by their (mean) teacher. Kids soon become troubled and /or troublesome and AT RISK.

Our FVYD program changes all of that—it brings forth new opportunity for peer equal classrooms in the future.
